New President at the Dominican University College

 

The New President and Regent of Studies of the Dominican University College, elected on October 8 for a two-year term and confirmed by the authorities of the Order of Preachers on October 22, is Maxime Allard, O.P., Ph.D., Professor of Philosophy and Theology.

Professor Lawrence Dewan wins the prestigious Capital

Educators' Award for excellence in teaching.

Professor Dewan, our professor of philosophy, was one of 16 educators selected from 67 finalists at a ceremony on May 20 at Algonquin College’s Woodroffe Campus.

Lawrence Dewan, a native of North Bay, is a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome who studied philosophy at the University of Toronto, the University of Paris, and the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (PIMS). His teaching career has included periods at the University of Ottawa, Saint Mary’s University, the University of Toronto, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

He is also an Adjunct Professor of Philosophy, School of Graduate Studies and Research, University of Ottawa, and Professeur associé de la Faculté de théologie et de sciences religieuses, Université Laval. He is author of two books Form and Being: Studies in Thomistic Metaphysics and Wisdom, Law, and Virtue: Essays in Thomistic Ethics. A group at Sergio Arboleda University, Bogota, Colombia is currently publishing Spanish translations of his work.

The Capital Educators’ Awards were created in the fall of 2001 by a group of business and education leaders who wanted to raise the profile of public education and recognize and celebrate the dedication and achievements of our local educators.

Any educator who has classroom teaching responsibilities and is currently employed by one of the ten partner institutions in Ottawa is eligible for a Capital Educators’ Award.

The awards are managed by OCRI (the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation) on behalf of its 10 education partners: Algonquin College, La Cité collégiale, Carleton University, University of Ottawa; Saint Paul University, Dominican University College, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est, Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, Ottawa Catholic School Board, and Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

 

 

On Friday, April 23rd, 2010, the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community and Social Services Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs paid a visit to the Dominican University College. She wanted to get to know our institution and we were much honoured by her visit.
