Oh What a Night – Continued A new school year began September 8, 2010 here at DUC exposing students to some old traditions as well as some new. The days festivities started in the church with The Mass of the Holy Spirit an annual mass held each year at DUC to commemorate and bless the new school year. Father Maxime Allard presided over the congregation of students, faculty and staff and members of our local community. Following the mass was a BBQ put on by staff here at the DUC. Hamburgers, hotdogs and salads greeted all who attended. During lunch student president Daniel Carreiro held student council and the AECDO elections. The rest of the afternoon was filled with volleyball, music and the gathering of students. New and old, students, alumnae, friends and family all mingling together, swapping stories of past adventures and making new memories that will be enjoyed by all. A jam session was held between 4-7pm seeing several students taking advantage of the open mic and delighted the crowd with songs and laughter. The session which was organized by Professor of Philosophy Mark Nyvlt, who was also seen and heard performing many classics that had the students and staff wanting to participate. Joining Mark on the stage was the DUC's own VP Jean-Francois Méthot, playing the ukulele. All who attending the days festivities enjoyed loads of pizza, beer and live music by local Ottawa band 'The Ethics'. The band's music is a “melodic jazz-tinged rock” - according to front-man and former student Kevin Hersak. The mellow sounds with an upbeat tempo had everyone listening and tapping their feet. The crowd lingered, mingled and socialized bringing together new traditions to compliment the old ones. Even though the evening was chilly, those that braved the weather helped to make this year's open door a great success! The thanks goes to all of those who attended as well as those who took the time to organize the day. The sounds of laughter and smell of food escaping from the DUC grounds enveloped all those who choose to challenge the weather and they were all warmly welcomed. We would like to welcome you all the DUC and we wish you all the best in the year to come.
